Essays
The Essayes. Religious Meditations. Places of perswasion and disswasion(1597) was Bacon's first published work, containing 10 essays in addition to the Latin meditations. The Essays, increased to 38, were published separately in 1612, and the final edition in Bacon's lifetime, containing 58 essays, appeared in 1625.
Historical Works
The History of the Reign of King Henry the Seventh(1622) was Bacon's only published historical work, but fragments of other projects also survive.
The Advancement of Learning
The Two Books of Francis Bacon: Of the Proficiencie and Advancement of Learning(1605) represented a blueprint for the improvement of the current state of knowledge in James I's realm.
Wisdom of the Ancients
Bacon sent the Latin text of this short work decoding ancient myths to Tobie Matthew in February 1611. His subsequent revisions of the work were published by William Rawson in Operum moralium et civilium tomus(1638).
New Atlantis
This unfinished work is part of a literary genre which includes Plato's Republic and Thomas More's Utopia, both of which served Bacon as models.
